Izola, 29 May 2025The traditional Blue Day was celebrated at MarinaUp Izola in cooperation with the Mavrica Kindergarten, marking the 26th consecutive year that the prestigious Blue Flag—an international symbol of excellence in environmental management—was raised.

This year’s event focused on the importance of protecting the marine environment and promoting the responsible management of waste, with a particular emphasis on reducing single-use plastics. The event drew numerous visitors, including representatives from the Municipality of Izola, the Izola Tourist Board, Komunala Izola, and the National Blue Flag Committee, highlighting the strong local commitment to environmental goals.

In 2025, Izola Marina was once again recognized among the 13 Slovenian coastal and marine destinations awarded the Blue Flag, reaffirming its high standards in environmental quality, safety, and sustainable management.

Special attention was given to the children from Mavrica Kindergarten, who took part in educational and engaging activities designed to foster environmental awareness. They observed divers cleaning the seabed and followed an eco trail, where they learned about waste separation in a playful and interactive way. A representative of the Green Academy project explained the impact of marine litter on wildlife and humans, with a specific focus on the dangers of microplastics.

Vladimir Gavran, Director of MarinaUp Izola, emphasized the importance of community cooperation in environmental protection:

“We believe that respect for nature starts with educating the youngest. Our commitment is clear: to maintain high environmental standards and to promote sustainable and eco-friendly solutions.”

The Blue Flag programme, led by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), operates in over 35 countries, with strict criteria covering water quality, safety, environmental education, and the sustainable management of beaches and marinas.
